About

Tim studies corporate governance with a particular focus on CEOs, CEO succession, and how their impact is influenced by prior experiences, values, compensation, and other factors. His work has been published in a range of outlets, including Strategic Management Journal, Academy of Management Journal, and Organization Science and it has been covered in media outlets such as BusinessWeek, Financial Times, and The Washington Post. Tim is an Associate Editor with Strategic Management Journal.

As an educator, Tim equips leaders to make well-informed decisions in demanding and rapidly evolving environments. He emphasizes the impact of cognitive blind spots on individual decision-making and explores how an organization’s culture around information and decision processes can either support or hinder enterprise-wide decision efficiency and corporate success. Additionally, Tim teaches the essential conceptual frameworks and statistical methods that support sound decision-making, providing leaders with a robust understanding of both theoretical and practical aspects of data analysis.

Tim came to academia after a successful corporate career in non-profit, IT, and consulting roles. During the rapid growth of the web in the late 1990s and early 2000s, he was part of an early-stage technology consulting firm where he helped companies across several industries, including financial services, pharmaceuticals, entertainment, and consumer products, leverage emerging technologies to engage customers and enhance workforce productivity.

Tim holds a PhD and MBA from Penn State’s Smeal College of Business and completed his undergraduate degree, also from Penn State, in Exercise & Sports Science.

In his younger days, Tim was a competitive cyclist on the US National team, won several national championships, and was an alternate for the 1992 Olympic Team.

Beyond his academic and professional life, Tim still enjoys the mind clearing benefits of cycling, though at a much slower pace these days. He also enjoys hiking with his family, golfing, woodworking, building and repairing things, and flying as a licensed private pilot.
